My focus has improved enormously and I notice that I can apply the principles of Wing Chun time and again, at work and in my personal life.

Find your strength through Wing Chun

Wing Chun is the martial art of control and insight: minimal movement, maximum efficiency. Grandmaster Ip Man and his student Bruce Lee made this Chinese martial art famous worldwide.

At WuDae you train Wing Chun to become mentally and physically stronger. You learn to move efficiently, use strength wisely and train with calm and control. Alongside self-defence, you develop focus, resilience and body awareness.

Founder of WuDae in front of the dragon logo at the school
During my fiscal economics studies at the University of Amsterdam, I changed course completely and chose to teach Wing Chun full time. I have been doing that since 1998, and in 2002 I opened WuDae in The Hague. The name means 'the ethics of a warrior': quality, respect for each other, and the balance between the mental and the physical. Together with skilled fellow teachers, I am glad to pass that on. Wing Chun has given me a great deal, and I wish that for everyone.

Although I didn't know it at the time, I was in the midst of a burnout when I started training at WuDae. My focus was weak and my thoughts were all over the place. Luckily I was in the right place. The connection between my mind and my body became stronger.

Frequently asked questions

What people often ask us before they start.

Are the classes in Dutch and English?

Yes. Don't speak Dutch? No problem: all classes are bilingual, Dutch and English.

How is the trial class structured?

The free trial class consists of two parts: an intro class and a regular class. In the intro class you learn the basics of Wing Chun and experience the atmosphere of the school. In the regular class you build on that and train along with the group, with guidance from start to finish.

Are the classes physically demanding?

You train at your level: more challenge if you want it, or a calmer build-up. Sparring is not part of the regular classes; there are separate Impact classes for that.

Are there different levels in the classes?

Yes. Beginners and advanced students train in the same class, each with their own programme and personal guidance. That way you learn Wing Chun at your own pace.

What ages are the classes suitable for?

Our classes are for adults. You are never too old to start.

Can I train in the morning, the evening and at the weekend?

Yes. We are open six days a week, with more than 25 classes in the morning, the evening and at the weekend. You do not need to sign up for each class. If you miss a class, you can make it up whenever it suits you best.

Can I adjust my membership?

Yes. Memberships can be cancelled monthly, and you can switch between once a week and unlimited. If you are away for a while, you can choose a passive membership.

Desi TamboerAnaesthesia assistant, The Hague
The flexible class schedule combines perfectly with my irregular shifts. There is a lot of personal attention during class, and after every session I have learned something new.
Kishen DatadinProject manager, The Hague
What attracts me most about WuDae's Wing Chun training is that I am taken out of my comfort zone every time, because the exercises pay a lot of attention to the details. In my work, by contrast, I keep an eye on the big picture.
Stefanie StubbéWater engineer and economist, The Hague
I had no idea that Wing Chun would help me build my inner resilience. My pitfall is being too tense. Getting softer actually makes my punches harder!
